Hovas vs Ekeskog : Differences? Can I fit the Hovas slipcover on the Ekeskog?

IKEA introduced the Hovas sofa in 2009 and many thought it was a replacement to the Ekeskog  model. They do look suprisingly similiar. These sofas are both discontinued, but we at Comfort Works are still making the slipcovers!

If you are looking for slipcovers for these models, here’s a useful road map to tell the differences:

If you have an Ekeskog couch and just bought a Hovas slip cover, you will find that only the cushions will fit. However, the Hovas sofa frame slipcover will not fit on the body of the Ekeskog couch being a few cm short.

The back of the Hovas also extends out over the arm rest cushions while the Ekeskog’s back ends before the arms begin, as below: (original photo credits to goldenboysandme.com)

Here are more differences:

Comfort Works now makes slipcovers for the Hovas 3-seater sofa, footstool and armchair.

Meanwhile for the Ekeskog sofa range, we make slipcovers for the 3-seater sofa, sofa-bed, footstool and armchair.

I’ve attached a few pictures below. Go ahead test yourself to see if you can spot the differences 😉

Hi, I have an Ekeskog sofa and the back cushions are not firm anymore. How can I change the cushion filler? Thanks so much,

      Hey Cecilia,
With the cushions, i normally recommend our clients to look into k-mart or target even for those cushions inserts that you can buy in compressed/vaccuumed bags; from there you can simply grab the refills according to how much each one of the cushion needs; while normally one would think that they need to open the actual inserts itself, i’d rather stuff them inside the slipcover instead of the cushions to save the hassle of cutting them up and resewing them back.

      Hi Nahla,

Unfortunately both the Hovas and the Ekeskog have been discontinued by IKEA – you might have to get these sofas from Craigslist, eBay, Gumtree or whichever second hand market you can think of 🙁

      Hope this helps!

      Hey Khalid!

The Ekeskog 3 seater sofa cover starts at US$339 and can be purchased here directly: https://comfort-works.com/en/ekeskog-sofa-covers/ekeskog-3-seater-slipcover-217

Shipping to Saudi Arabia would be around $55.

I would like to order new cushions for our 2 Ekeskog sofas. I’m not sure if the are 3 seaters or sofa bed. I do remember that the cushions can be flipped over to make a bed. They are flatter and firmer on the one side of seat cushion. Does this indicate sofa bed model? Thx for your help!

      Hi Jo Ann,

The Ekeskog sofa bed seat cushions are significantly flatter and have a very unique “L-shape” when viewed from the side. If you can send photos over to us at info@comfortworks.com.au we can easily identify it, but that’s essentially the main difference between the Ekeskog sofa and sofa bed 🙂

      Hope this helps!
